Since 1989, the Sprout Man brand and character have become household names as our products have increasingly graced the tables of New Zealanders nationwide. Sun Sprout Ltd now enjoys a market-leading position and a widespread reputation for providing delicious fresh sprouts, baby salad greens and baby peeled carrots of optimum freshness, quality and flavour.

Sun Sprout originally started as a small cottage industry supplying health food outlets with its small range of sprout products in limited quantities. However, as consumer tastes became more sophisticated and varied the company began to increase its production and finally achieved supermarket distribution, after which sales flourished.

A key milestone in the growth of Sun Sprout was our relocation to a large new custom-designed and purpose-built sprout-growing factory in 1997. This paved the way for many new developments. Since the relocation our production capacity has almost doubled, with substantial growth in both our core product lines and new varieties.

Sprout Man also purchased its first land holding in 1997 with the purpose of growing an exciting new range of baby salad greens. Our close partnership with NZ Fresh Cuts Ltd has now boosted that growing capacity and broadened the range of salad products available on Sun Sprout store displays.

In March of 2004, the acquisition of Sun Sprout Ltd by a consortium of local business people marked the company’s advancement as a major and diversified marketer of fresh sprouts, salads and baby carrot products. Significant investment in the company, together with a strategic partnership with NZ Fresh Cuts, has resulted in the recent introduction of the most modern growing and production technologies. This, coupled with good food hygiene practices, now finds Sun Sprout as one the most progressive operations of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere – supplying fresh food products to New Zealand and South East Asia.
