A Proven Powerhouse of Health BenefitsRecent medical studies have shown that a daily dose of broccoli sprouts can reduce the chances of contracting cancer by up to 80%.
Containing concentrated amounts of a powerful cancer-fighting compound called sulforaphane, Broccoli Sprouts are increasingly being recognised as one of the most potent food based anticarcinogens available. Sulforaphane is a naturally occurring antioxidant compound found in broccoli and broccoli sprouts, which prevents cancer by assisting the body to create an enzyme that prevents tumours from forming.
According to Dr Paul Talalay, Professor of Pharmacology at John Hopkins Medical School, three-day-old broccoli sprouts consistently contain up to 50 times the amount of sulforaphane found in mature broccoli heads, and may offer a simple, dietary means of chemically reducing cancer risk.
More than 125 scientific papers have been published on sulforaphane and broccoli sprouts, including at least 10 in 2004. Two of these studies showed that sulforaphane inhibited the growth of human prostate cancer cells, and another showed it stopped the growth of colon cancer cells.
Perhaps the most amazing fact about sulforaphane from sprouted broccoli is that it does not concentrate on certain organs or particular cancers. Because it fights cancers on a cellular level it helps protect all organs from cancer.
Along with providing proven protection against cancer, a regular intake of Broccoli Sprouts has also been shown to help prevent a range of other conditions including ulcers, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and stroke.
An intensely tasty sprout with a hint of pepper and radish – Broccoli Sprouts are available in both standard and organic grown options. They are particularly tasty with ham, cheese, tomatoes and eggs, and provide a delicious addition to baked and mashed potatoes.
